PS Meets Non-Judicial Staff, Urges Them to Uphold Judiciary Core Values

The Permanent Secretary/Secretary to the Judiciary, Dr. Pius Bigirimana today held a meeting with more than a hundred non-judicial staff at the Court of Appeal Conference Hall. 

The staff included; Secretaries, Statisticians, Office Supervisors, Economists, Systems Administrators, Assistant Records Officers, Assistant Accountants, Drivers, Process Servers, and Office Attendants, among others.

Dr. Bigirimana emphasized the importance of the participants' hard work, which he said has been instrumental in helping the Judiciary achieve its goals. 

He also highlighted the Judiciary's unique approach to staff health and fitness, encouraging participants to take part in the aerobics program held every Wednesday and Friday at the Judiciary Headquarters. 

The PS/SJ also spoke about the various career growth opportunities within the Judiciary and the importance of conducting a needs assessment to better understand staff training requirements.

He stressed the importance of good character and results-oriented work, and urged participants to always complete their appraisal forms to facilitate performance evaluations. 

Dr. Bigirimana reiterated the Judiciary's core values of integrity, accountability, and professionalism and urged participants to adhere to them. 

Additionally, he discussed the importance of adhering to transfers, regular attendance, effective time management, and maintaining a culture of respect and confidentiality. He also strongly discouraged corruption, rudeness, and fraud, urging staff to demonstrate good customer care and respect towards Judicial officers.

He also informed the participants that he had written to the Attorney General regarding their concerns about transitioning to the Judiciary Service, discussing its pros and cons, and promised to provide updates upon receiving a response.

Ms. Tumwine N. Apophia, Commissioner Human Resource Management, addressed concerns about transitioning to the Judiciary service raised by the participants.

She encouraged staff whose positions were abolished under the Approved Judiciary Service Structure to seek assistance from her office if they were qualified and interested, so she could recommend them for positions in the Public Service, ensuring they are not being disadvantaged.

Ms. Tumwine also advised the participants to prepare thoroughly for any interviews as they transition to the Judiciary service. She also emphasized the importance of understanding which fields or courses to pursue for further training, ensuring that such training aligns with their roles to enhance performance. 

Additionally, she urged the staff to always request for study leaves especially if their further studies will impact their everyday work.
